How this website handles your data, in plain words.
Last updated:
- No cookies, no analytics, no ads and nothing that follows you to other websites.
- The only thing this website keeps on your device is your choice of Light or Dark mode, and only if you make one.
- The host, Vercel, logs each request to keep the site running and safe.
- If you email me, I use your message only to reply.
I, Mateusz Kita, run this website and decide how its data is used: I am the controller under the GDPR. You can reach me at mkita.webdev@gmail.com (opens your email app).
I have not appointed a data protection officer. A personal website like this one does not need one.
Vercel Inc. (USA) hosts this website. Like every web server, it receives your IP address, the address of the page you ask for, the time and your browser’s details, and keeps them in its logs.
This keeps the site running and protects it from attacks. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in a working and secure website (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).
Vercel handles these logs on my behalf, and also for its own needs, such as keeping its network safe. It keeps them only as long as it needs them. Vercel takes part in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, which covers sending the data to the USA.
The details are in the Vercel privacy policy (opens in a new tab).
This website sets no cookies and has no analytics, ads, trackers or forms. It saves one thing on your device, and only when you ask for it:
- Your theme: when you pick Light or Dark mode with the switch at the top of the page, your browser keeps that choice (kb-theme, in its local storage), so the next page opens the same way. Without a pick, nothing is saved and the site follows your device’s setting.
The choice stays in your browser and is never sent anywhere. It is needed for the feature you asked for, so it needs no consent. Clearing this site’s data in your browser removes it.
Fonts, icons and images come from this website itself. The fonts are part of the site’s own files, so opening a page sends no request to Google or any other service. On the home page, your browser may also connect to Karolina’s portfolio in advance (see Links to Other Websites).
If you write to mkita.webdev@gmail.com (opens your email app), I use your address and your message to reply.
The legal basis is my legitimate interest in answering messages (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)), or the steps you ask for before a possible contract (Art. 6(1)(b)).
My email runs on Gmail, so Google receives the messages and handles them under the Google privacy policy (opens in a new tab). Google takes part in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. I keep a message only as long as I need it to answer you and follow up.
Links to Karolina Kita’s portfolio, GitHub and LinkedIn open those websites. Their own privacy policies apply there.
On the home page, your browser may connect to karolina.kita.company in advance, so her portfolio opens faster if you choose it. It asks for no page until you click, but her host can see your IP address, as every server your browser connects to can.
The link to her portfolio ends in ?ref=kita-company, and your browser tells her site that you came from www.kita.company: this website’s address only, not the page you were on or anything about you. Her statistics can then count the visit as one from this website, if you allow statistics on her site.
You can ask me to:
- Access: show you the data I have about you (GDPR Art. 15).
- Correction: correct it (Art. 16).
- Deletion: delete it (Art. 17).
- Restriction: limit how I use it (Art. 18).
- Portability: give you the messages you sent me in a common file format (Art. 20).
Write to mkita.webdev@gmail.com (opens your email app). I answer within 1 month.
You can also complain to the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (Prezes Urzędu Ochrony Danych Osobowych, UODO), ul. Stanisława Moniuszki 1A, 00-014 Warszawa, uodo.gov.pl (opens in a new tab).
You do not have to email me or pick a theme: the website works the same without them. Opening a page does need the details listed under When You Open a Page: your browser sends them, as it does on any website, and Vercel keeps them in its logs. I make no automated decisions about you and build no profiles.
You can object at any time to the use of your data based on my legitimate interest: the server logs and the emails you send me (GDPR Art. 21). Write to mkita.webdev@gmail.com (opens your email app).
