Accessibility Statement

Accessibility

How this website works for people who use it in different ways, and what to do if something does not work for you.

Last updated:

In Short

  • This website aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
  • You can use it with a keyboard or a screen reader, with zoom up to 400% and with a larger text size.
  • It follows your device’s settings for Dark mode, reduced motion and more contrast.
  • If something does not work for you, write to me at mkita.webdev@gmail.com (opens your email app).

What You Can Do

  • Keyboard: every link and button can be reached with Tab, in reading order. The focus is always visible, and nothing on the page covers it. In Safari, press Option-Tab, or turn on “Press Tab to highlight each item on a webpage” in Safari’s Advanced settings.
  • Screen readers: pages have landmarks for the header, the main content and the footer, one main heading and a heading for each section. Links say where they go and when they open a new tab or your email app, decorative images and icons are hidden, and copying a section link is announced.
  • Zoom and text size: up to 400% zoom, pages fit the window without sideways scrolling, and text and layout grow with a larger text size in your browser, up to 200%. Wider spacing between letters, words and lines does not cut off any text.
  • Light and Dark mode: the site follows your device’s setting, and the switch at the top of the page changes it for this site.
  • Less motion: if your device asks for reduced motion, nothing animates and every change happens at once: a page you open from another page of this site appears without fading in, and Karolina’s portfolio opens straight away.
  • More contrast: if your device asks for more contrast (Increase contrast on a Mac, iPhone or iPad), text, links and borders get stronger colours. Windows contrast themes work too: the focus, borders and buttons stay visible.

Known Limits

  • Your theme choice: a pick of Light or Dark mode is kept for this website only. Karolina’s portfolio keeps its own, so it may open in the other mode.
  • Opening Karolina’s portfolio: a plain click on her link covers the page in its background colour for 0.3 seconds before her site loads. Reduced motion, Windows contrast themes and opening the link in a new tab skip it.
  • Release notes: most entries describe technical changes and name files, tools and tests, so they are harder to read than the rest of the site.
  • Other websites: links to Karolina’s portfolio, GitHub and LinkedIn open those websites, and I do not control their accessibility.

How It Is Tested

Automated tests check every change in real browsers before it goes live: the WCAG 2.2 rules that a tool can test (axe-core), in Light and Dark mode, with and without more contrast, at 320, 768 and 1280px wide; the keyboard order and whether anything hides the focus; 320px width, 400% zoom, a 200% text size and wider text spacing; Windows contrast themes; and that nothing moves with reduced motion.

The tests run in the engines of Chrome, Firefox and Safari (Chromium, Firefox and WebKit). The axe, zoom, text size and Windows contrast checks run in Chromium, and the keyboard checks in Chromium and Firefox. I also check each page by eye.

Automated tests cannot find every problem, and the site has not yet been tested by a person who uses a screen reader such as NVDA or VoiceOver. Feedback from people who use the web in different ways matters most.

This statement was prepared on 31 October 2026, from these tests and a review of the code.
